Euro 2012

This coming Saturday is arguably one of the most exciting tournaments in international football. It is the Euro 2012 held in Poland/Ukraine. It is pretty much as competitive as the soccer world cup just without the South American teams. Some might find that disappointing but I have to mention that the 3 top teams in the FIFA World Cup were all from Europe (Spain, Netherlands, and Germany).  In general I’m not a big football fan but somehow during every international tournament a football fan inside me appears.

I’m definitely going to be supporting the Germans for I am a great fan of the likes of Ozil, Pedolski, Schweinsteiger (wow what a name), and captain Lahm. Even though Spain is still ranked the best in the world I don’t think they will be repeating their success of the world cup. Especially since I’ve heard that Puyo (who can forget his header against Germany in the world cup semi final) and David Villa will not be taking part due to injury. Apparently Netherlands are still good but I know absolutely no one in the team so whatever.

I have to mention something about the Poms surely, well my opinion of the English Football team is very similar to the Australian cricket team. Okay maybe not that bad, but basically the quicker they get eliminated the better. It fascinates me how the English media everytime before a big event feel that their team is finally ready to repeat the success of winning the world cup in the 60’s. Really?!

Anyway, below are the groups for the group stage. Is it just me or is Germany’s pool the toughest. Check out the awesome interactive page on the official Euro 2012 page here.

The man who was appointed to coach the very overrated team of England.
