Gio Aplon started his career as a Sevens specialist and represented South Africa at the IRB World series and the 2009 Sevens World Cup before making his Springbok debut in the fifteens format in 2010. His Sevens skills are evident when he runs circles around defenders after starting a counter attack from the fullback position. He is also just as comfortable playing on the wing.  He might be one of the smallest players in the Springbok squad but everything he lacks in size, he makes up for in heart and passion. He has proven he doesn’t stand back for anyone on the field. Gio has played his entire professional career with Western Province and the Stormers.
