Yesterday was the 1st of 5 ODI’s of the Sunfoil ODI series between South Africa and Sri Lanka. And it started on a high nigh note from a South African’s perspective. I did not watch the Sri Lankan’s innings as I was also playing cricket myself, which I do not want to talk about by the way. There were quite a few records that were broken and very interesting stats that can be taken from the game.  See below:

  • It was Sri Lanka’s lowest ever ODI total, and 4th lowest by any team.
  • The 258-run defeat was the largest ever for Sri Lanka, and the 3rd highest for any team. It was South Africa’s 2nd highest win in ODI history. They had previously beaten Zimbabwe by 272 runs.
  • It is only the 2nd time that both openers of Sri Lanka both got dismissed for ducks.
  • Morne Morkel’s performance of 4/10 was the 4th best bowling by a South African in matches against Sri Lanka.
  • It was South Africa’s 4th highest score against Sri Lanka.
  • Amla is now 5th on the list of most centuries (9) by South African batsmen. Gibbs is nr 1 with 21 centuries.
  • Kallis now has 85 half-centuries and only Sachin Tendulkar has more than that (95).
  • It was Malinga’s best bowling performance against South Africa.
