Look, I’m not the biggest football fan in the world but the FIFA World Cup always gets me super excited. You will rarely see me watching a football game outside the world cup but for some reason I can’t get enough of it during the tournament. The most obvious reason would have to be that this is where all worlds best players come together. This is the best of the best of the best. And playing for your country means so much more than playing for your local club. I guess they’re playing more for pride and respect than anything else. If you look at the Spanish team, they will be known as one of the best international teams to ever play in the modern era. But will they be able to defend their title? Will their tactic of total ball possession work as well as it did in the previous world cup? This will all be revealed in the next couple of weeks.

Groups

Group A Group B Group C Group D
Brazil Spain Colombia Uruguay
Croatia Netherlands Greece Costa Rica
Mexico Chile Ivory Coast England
Cameroon Australia Japan Italy

Group E Group F Group H Group H
Switzerland Argentina Germany Belgium
Ecuador Bosnia and Herzegovina Portugal Algeria
France Iran Ghana Russia
Honduras Nigeria USA Korea Republic

My thoughts on the groups:
Group A – Should be relatively easy for Brazil to continue to knockout stages. With some young exciting players and with home ground advantage, they should be one of the favorites for the tournament. I would bet money on them if I was a gambling man.
Group B – Arguably one of the most highly anticipated games of the group games. Repeat of last World Cup’s final – Spain vs Netherlands. I can’t wait.
Group C – Ivory Coast has a slight chance of advancing to the next stage. Keep an eye out for them. They have a lot of experienced players who is going to give it one last try. They have arguably the best African player (Drogba) to ever play in the Europe so it should be worth a look.
Group D – Group of Death. This is a very competitive group. Uruguay should be a very strong team especially if Suarez is fit, which is not certain by the way. Who can forget the last world cup when they beat Ghana in the quarter finals?! England and Italy should be a very interesting matchup. Italy have a lot to prove as they completely failed in the last world cup.
Group E – zzzzzzzz
Group F – Nigeria probably has the best chance of an African team to continue to the knockout stages. So us South African should support them as much as we can. Although they knocked us out of the African Cup of Nations.
Group G – Another group of death. Germany is my favourite for the tournament. They had a very young team in the last World Cup and still had a good performance. The players are now older and much more experienced and they have the same captain and coach. They seem to have a well balanced team of young and experienced players. Although Ghana almost made it to the Semi Finals in the last World Cup, I don’t see them repeating that success this time. But this should make up for a very entertaining group.
Group H – zzzzz

Keeping the groups in mind, I picked out a few key matches you should try to watch. Although you should try to watch as many as you can. For a full list, download our Outlook calendar file here.
