Return of Tiger

If any of you might be suffering of insomnia, there is some nice golf for you to watch this weekend. The golf is played in the US and will only be shown late at night. The tournament that I’m talking about is the Open. Yes it is not as glamorous as last weekend’s tournament, but there is one slight issue which makes it extremely exciting. It marks the return of Tiger Woods! When Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples picked Tiger Woods for the US team, he said Tiger must compete in at least 1 tournament before the Presidents Cup, and understandably so considering Tiger as been out of action for quite a while now.

And the question on everybody’s mind is will Tiger be as good as he was before. How will he do this weekend? Will he outperform the other players? My guess is no he will not. But I reckon it’s more of a mental problem than physical. Yes he has been long out of competitive golf but the pressure is too much for him at the moment. People expected him to be as good as his was before, and I think the problem is so did Tiger! That could be why he dropped his longtime  caddie and putter that helped him achieve 14 majors! Don’t get me wrong, I do think he might be as good as he was, but it will take longer than people would want it to happen. Once the dust settles, and there is less pressure on him, then I think his game will start to pick up. I truly hope he regains his form because I feel golf needs him, golf needs a superstar. Rory McIlroy might be the new wonderkid, but it’s not as close as to what Tiger was a few years back. The great Gary Player once said that Tiger Woods was, when he was at his best, the best player golf has ever seen. Ever.

The 1st round of the Frys Open did not go too well for him with 6 shots off the lead. Hopefully the following rounds will be better as he might actually miss the cuts if he doesn’t. We have a few guys representing the rainbow nation in this tournament namely Els, Oosthuisen, Sabbatini, and Immelman. Els had a pretty decent 1st round by ending only 2 shots off the lead. Let’s hope he keeps it up!

Be sure to check our site next week to see the results. I’m hoping for a playoff between Woods and any SA player, and the SA player winning it of course!
