Yes when we started the golf section on up and under we emphasized that we will primarily focus on the progress and achievements of the south african players playing in the US and European tour. But given the magnitude of the rewards of this past weekend”s tournament in Atlanta USA, we decided we couldn’t resist otherwise.

The Tour Championship did not receive any talking points in south africa for the reason that no south african took part in it. But due to the fact that prize money of $1.4 million plus $10million bonus money was on the line, it definitely deserves to be mentioned on up and under.

To give you a very brief introduction to the fedex cup, The FedExCup is a season-long competition in which players accumulate points in each eligible FedExCup Points event. At the end of the season, the winning player will be crowned the PGA TOUR FedExCup Champion, who will receive the $10 million bonus! On top of that, the prize money of the Tour Championship is just a mere $1.4 million. So it was possible for 1 player to walk away with a staggering $11.4 million after this weekend!

And that is exactly what happened. Bill Haas from the USA whon The Tour championships and ultimately the FedEx Cup title! So yes, the man is now $11.4 million dollars richer. If you watched the tournament you would have noticed how much the commentators focused on the FedEx cup projections more than the tournament leaderboard itself. Another interesting aspect of the tournament is, that there was no dominant player leading it. Every round had a different leader. The FedEx cup title as well as the tournament winner was open to a few players with only 3 or 4 holes remaining in the final round! To prove how close it was, Haas would not have won the FedExCup had Luke Donald finished solo third. Instead, Donald finished tied for third because K.J. Choi saved par with a 7-foot putt at the 18th. And Haas would not have won the FedExCup had Webb Simpson finished in a two-way tie for 18th.

"Yes I am $11.4million richer!"

This win definitely puts pressure on Fred Couples ( and assistant captain Michael Jordan!!!) to pick Bill Haas as the last outstanding pick for the Presidents Cup team.
