This is why Up and Under decided to bring you a weekly wrap up of International Golf news, once again there were South African players who made us proud on the inernational circuit and not much as said about it.

This past weekend there was the Johnnie Walker Championship in Gleneagles in Scotland. Even though a South African did not win the tournament he came very close! George Coetzee was in a 5-man playoff on the last day to compete for the title. He was in the final 2 and eventually lost to Thomas Bjorn from Sweden. This just shows that there are a lot more talented South African Golfers playing overseas than we are aware of. Poor luck George, sure you’ll take it next time.

George Coetzee is Up and Under's SA golfer of the week. He had an excellent performance at Johnny Walker Championship in Gleneagles

On the US tour there was the Barclays title which did not go as well as the Johnnie Walker Championship. The event was won by Steve Stricker from the USA. South Africa did have some players who took part and this is how they ended:

Player Name Position
Rory Sabatini 18
Trevor Immelman 32
Ernie Els 32
Retief Goosen 72

The next tournament on the US PGA is the Deutshe Bank Championship in Massachusetts. We will give you the results in next week’s wrap up.

On the European tour, the next tournament is the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. The tournament is loaded with South African players so hopefully they will make us proud. Some of the big guns like Lee Westwood, Rory Mcilroy, Martin Kaymer, and Darren Clarke is also scheduled to play there.

Below is the summary of the South African players on the Race to Dubai rankings. Note the improvement of George Coetzee thanks to his excellent performance at Gleneagles.
