The Cake Tin as its known or officially the Wellington Regional Stadium is one of the newer stadium in New Zealand and the home of Super 15 team The Hurricanes.

It was built in Wellington’s rail yards close to the city centre and opened in January 2000, it is a multi functional stadium also hosting cricket matches and concerts.┬áDuring a cricket match, film director Peter Jackson recorded 30,000 fans chanting for a battle scene for his film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

The Wellington Regional Stadium will play host to 8 matches during the 2011 tournament.

The Cake Tin is a just a short walk from the City’s railway station and has a capacity of 40 000 seats with temporary stands included.
